Landline customers across Tennessee ran into a major headache Monday morning. An AT&T fiber cut in Shelbyville took down landline connections for hours.
Hamilton County Emergency Communications District Executive Director John Stuermer says the problem was noticeable right off the bat.
Stuermer worked to get the word out to customers. He says the main problem was landline to landline connections. They encouraged people to use their cell phones in case of emergency.
The cut didn’t just impact AT&T customers. EPB spokesperson J.Ed. Marston says their callers were impacted if they took calls outside of the EPB network.
EPB re-routed lines to make sure customers could still call 9-1-1.
Service was restored around 12:30 Monday afternoon. In a statement to Channel 3, AT&T says the cut was caused by another company.

A Chattanooga man accused of murdering his 4-week-old baby earlier this year was indicted by a grand jury last week.
Ivan Dunton faces felony murder and aggravated child abuse charges in baby Olivia’s death in March.
According to a report by Chattanooga Police, Dunton first told officers he accidentally knocked the newborn’s car seat down a flight of stairs.
Police said Dunton later admitted to shaking the baby to death.
The Hamilton County Medical Examiner says the child died from blunt force trauma, consistent with someone intentionally hitting the child.
Dunton is due in court later this month.

Kaitlin Gebby reports: Plans are being finalized for a two-day blood drive honoring first responders on 9/11.
To honor the daily sacrifice first responders make, Blood Assurance is planning and hosting its fifth annual Burgers and Badges event on 9/11, which will include free meals for first responders and a goal of collecting more than 250 units of blood from donors.
Starting on Wednesday, Sept. 11, a luncheon and blood drive to support local first responders will be held at the Life Care Center in Cleveland.
Whether donors are pre-registered or walk in, they will be asked which first responders group they are supporting with their donation. Blood Assurance will keep a tally and present the first, second and third-place agencies with a check.
All donors will receive a gift card for a medium sub sandwich from Firehouse Subs.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 9/11, Cooke’s Food will provide meals to over 400 first responders, following an opening ceremony.
