In news today…

The Bradley County Commission met on Monday covering several items of business. Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis noted that COVID-19 hospitalizations are at their highest since September. Commissioner MIlan Blake discussed Affordable Housing Rescue Plan funds, covering the use for the remaining approximately $300,000 left for distribution. He noted he will make a resolution for the next meeting to allocate $100,000 each to The Caring Place and United Way, although the specific amounts may change. Both groups were present to give overviews of their work and how they would use the funds if allocated.

Also in news today…

The Cleveland City Schools Board of Education met on Monday covering several items of business. A Strategic Plan Update was given. Currently, there are 1,450 Non-English Language Background students in the school system, which amounts to 26% of the student population. Thirteen percent of the student population are English learners. Focus areas are to create a culture that supports language and content development for English learners, provide ongoing professional development opportunities for ESL teachers, and strengthening connections between schools and families of English learners. Updates were also given on the COVID plan: Rapid and PCR tests are being offered to staff and students at any Cleveland City school. As of Monday, 34 staff members were out due to COVID-19. And finally, officers were elected for the school board, with Dawn Robinson named Chairman, Nate Tucker named Vice-Chairman, and Krista McKay named Chairman Pro-Term. All were unanimous.

Chattanooga police chased a carjacking suspect down Lee Highway Monday which ended in a crash.

Officers saw the suspect driving a stolen vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.

The suspect refused to stop which is what led to the chase down Lee Highway, according to CPD.

CPD says the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed.

He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, according to CPD.

A CPD Officer also had a minor crash with minor injuries.

No one else was involved in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
