During a press conference yesterday, county officials announced temporary locations for various county offices, which will be in operation until repairs are made to the courthouse following Saturday’s electrical fire. It was originally hoped that all of the displaced offices could be housed in a single facility, however those arrangements did not work out. Instead, displaced offices are being relocated to three separate facilities.
The county clerk’s office, which houses Donna Simpson as well as her staff, will be operating from the old FSG Bank Building on Keith Street in front of the Village Green Town Center.
Register of Deeds Dina Swafford, Veterans Services, and all associated staff thereto will be housed in the old title company building catty-corner to the courthouse, on the corner of 2nd and Broad Street.
County Trustee Mike Smith and his staff will operate from the former First Tennessee Bank building located at the corner of 17th and Keith Streets.
Most of these offices are still in the process of having furniture, computers, Internet, and telephone equipment installed at this time, and are not open for operation. However, general consensus was that most offices hope to be open by the middle of next week.
All county courts continue to operate from the previously-announced locations, and will continue to do so until further notice.
County officials have expressed their appreciation to everyone who has stepped up and offered assistance during this difficult time.

Channel 3 has learned that Woodmore bus driver Johnthony Walker was released Wednesday on bail, making his $50,000 bond.
Walker’s jury trial is now scheduled February 27th, 2018. Earlier Tuesday, the date of Feb. 20 was selected by Judge Don Poole but a conflict was later determined, delaying the trial by a week.
Here on Mix 104-1 and Talk 101-3 The Buzz we also announced the February 20th date, and have since become aware that it was changed to February 27th, and thus would like to pass along the correction.

A select group of Volunteer Electric Cooperative customers should have broadband internet and other services supplied by fiber optic cable by Dec. 1, a move which could signal the beginning of the end of a long broadband drought for rural residents of Bradley County and other areas facing a lack of the access.
VEC qualifies to participate in the recent Tennessee Broadband Accessibility Act, which provides $30 million in grants over a three-year period to broadband providers to encourage deployment to unserved homes and businesses.
According to Tom Matthews of the Southeast Tennessee Citizens for Fiber Internet, approximately 200 homes near the VEC Hopewell substation, northwest of Cleveland, are included in the pilot program.
Matthews wrote the service will be cobranded with the Twin Lakes Cooperative and that “gigabit services will be available.”
The percentage of homes purchasing the services in the pilot area will help determine the duration of the pilot program.
