Christy Armstrong reports: The staff of Medical Center Pharmacy and local school health leaders are asking for the community’s help to “Stock the Shelves for School Nurses.”

The pharmacy’s fourth annual school nurse supply drive is scheduled for Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the pharmacy, which is located at 2401 North Ocoee St.

The community can help by donating medical supplies to help local public school nurses replenish their stocks. Nurses from both local school districts — Bradley County Schools and Cleveland City Schools — will benefit.

The nurses’ wishlists include: adhesive bandages, latex-free gloves, gallon and sandwich size zip-top bags, reusable ice packs, Q-tips, artificial tears, Carmex, Purell hand sanitizer, cough drops, hydrocortisone cream and first aid cream. The following medications, in both children’s and adult dosages, are also needed: Advil, Tylenol, Benadryl and Zyrtec.

While local schools do receive funding to stock their shelves at the beginning of the year, many say they regularly run out of funds — and supplies — before the school year ends.

Anyone can stop by the pharmacy, donate supplies and meet some of the school nurses. This is also a family event, and activities for children are being planned.
