The Tennessee River will be a lot quieter this summer as music from popular festival Riverbend will no longer fill the air in downtown Chattanooga.

Friends of the Festival, the manager of the event, told Channel 3 its decision to cancel followed the height of the coronavirus pandemic and devastation following recent tornadoes and protests.

After originally rescheduling for the fall, Executive Director Mickey McCamish said the board decided to pull the plug.

The board is in the works of getting deposits back from the close to 30 artists who were on the lineup and refunding those who have purchased tickets.

It is planning to keep music alive through their summer series, Chattanooga Unite: Healing and Uniting on the River,” a series of six free concerts to support the community and the economy during the pandemic.

It is scheduled to begin July 11 and run the next five Saturdays after in Ross’s Landing and across the street in the green area along the water in an expansion to promote more social distancing.
