From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Tennova Healthcare–Cleveland has formally submitted its Letter of Intent to the state of Tennessee to build a freestanding emergency department in Bradley County.

The Letter of Intent was filed with the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency. Tennova said it will file its formal application for a Certificate of Need later this week.

According to a statement from Tennova, the proposed freestanding emergency department is intended to increase access to quality, emergency care services close to home for residents of Bradley and Polk counties.

Tennova’s move comes less than a month after Erlanger Health Systems filed  paperwork in Nashville to construct a similar facility in the county.

The major difference is in location.

While Erlanger officials would not confirm it on the record, their public notices about their intent stated a location in the area of Exit 20. Tennova’s announcement is specific in location, stating that their proposed freestanding emergency department would be located at 680 Stuart Road N.E. in Cleveland.

The board of the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency will hear the requests from both medical entities at a hearing scheduled for June 27 in Nashville.

Also from The Banner…

A group of around 50 tree lovers braved the rain and the chilly temperatures Saturday morning to help make Cleveland an even more beautiful place.

The occasion was Arbor Day, but it was even more significant as Cleveland celebrated its 25th consecutive year with recognition as a Tree City USA.

More than 200 trees were planted along the soon to be completed Casteel Connector, which will lead the Greenway into Tinsley Park.

The effort was lead by the Cleveland Parks and Recreation Department, and the trees were gifted by Cleveland Sunrise Rotary and the Rotary Club of Cleveland.

Tinsley Park will become an even more popular destination as the new tennis courts are scheduled to be completed around May 1st.

Area residents wanting to learn more about the origins of severe weather should plan to attend a SKYWARN® spotter class that is being presented by the Law Enforcement Training Academy, the National Weather Service, the Cleveland – Bradley County Emergency Management Agency and the agencies Auxiliary Communications Service.

The free, two-hour power point and video presentation, conducted by a meteorologist from the Morristown office of the N. W-S, will be held on Tuesday, March 13, in the George R. Johnson Cultural Heritage Center auditorium on the campus of Cleveland State Community College.

The training session begins at 6 p.m. and is open to all area residents.

In southeast Tennessee, severe weather can occur anytime of the year but it is most likely during the change of seasons in March, April and May.  SKYWARN® volunteers keep an eye on the sky and report threatening conditions they observe to their local N-W-S office. Their reports supplement data forecasters receive from Doppler radar, giving them valuable insight of conditions at ground level that is beyond the view of the radar beam due to curvature of the earth.

Pre-registration for the class is not required.
