From News Channel 9: Four people face charges after police in Athens, Tennessee say they broke up a meth and fentanyl ring.

It all started with a traffic stop last week.

Athens Police say the Drug Task Force asked officers to help with the traffic stop of a vehicle. A K9 officer helped sniff out methamphetamine, fentanyl tablets, and firearms inside the car.

That led to a search warrant served at a home on South Congress Parkway in Athens, Tennessee.

A release from Athens Police says

As a result of the traffic stop and search warrant, agents seized approximately nine pounds of methamphetamine, over 3,100 fentanyl tablets, approximately eight grams of fentanyl/Xylazine powder, and three firearms (one of which was stolen).

Here’s who police took into custody and the charges they face:

  • Beth Lunsford (top left): Violation of probation
  • Jerremy Scott Ledbetter (top right): Possession of methamphetamine for resale
  • Jason Keith Lemke (top left): Possession of methamphetamine for resale over 300 grams, possession of fentanyl for resale over 150 grams, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, possession of a firearms by a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia

This is a fine example of how cooperation amongst our state and local partner agencies is vital in making a difference in our community,’ said Athens Police Chief Fred K. Schultz. ‘The dedication to service is obvious in the results of this operation. We are proud of our contributions to the Drug Task Force and look forward to continued success.

Police say more arrests and charges are coming.
