The Cleveland City School Board met yesterday.

 

The Board recognized the Novice Teachers of the Year winners. The District Level honorees were: 

  • Megan Carroll, Cleveland Middle School
  • Jordan Wagers, Cleveland High School
  • Chris Alvarez, Ross Elementary

 

The Novice Teachers of the Year award winners at the School Level were:

  • Nikki Brooks at Yates Primary
  • Chris Alvarez at Ross Elementary
  • Mariah Ellis at Stuart Elementary
  • Sammie Eason at Mayfield Elementary
  • Jordan Wagers at Cleveland High School
  • David Williams at Blythe-Bower Elementary
  • Fatima Fernandez at Arnold Memorial Elementary
  • Megan Carroll at Cleveland Middle School

 

An update on the Director of Schools Search was given. The Board has begun vetting applicants and interview dates have been set. 

 

The Summer Raider Excel Program dates and information was announced. The program will be for rising 9th Grade students and will be held at Cleveland High School, May 28 – June 20, Mondays – Thursday’s, from 8:00 am-2:30 pm. Doors will open at 7:30 AM and breakfast will be served. 

 

Also, K-8th grade Summer Academic Camps were announced. 

 

There will be 44 Certified classroom teachers in grades K-7. Every classroom teacher will have an assistant. 

 

There will be specific programming for English Language Newcomers in grades 3-7.

 

A Nurse, Counselor, and SRO will be at each site. 

 

Open enrollment for camp began yesterday.

The Board also heard high-level information on a future presentation to the Cleveland City Council to discuss the need for a new intermediate-level school. No location has been set currently. A property and architect search will begin upon approval.
