The Krystal Company, the fast food restaurant chain that started decades ago in Chattanooga, has filed for bankruptcy.

On Sunday, the company voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the state of Georgia on Sunday from their offices in Dunwoody, Georgia.

The paperwork filed by the company cites debts between $50 million and $100 million, and estimates that the company has between $10 million and $50 million in assets.

Officials said in the statement that the company has filed several motions to get authorization to continue operating during the Chapter 11 proceedings. “These include, among others, authorization to continue to pay employee wages and benefits, honor customer programs, and ensure utility services,” the statement reads.

In his famous “I have a Dream Speech”, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wanted freedom to ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.

On Monday, nearly 57 years later, that freedom rang out 40 miles away in Cleveland, Tennessee.

“Because of him, everything is better in a lot of places,” said Cleveland vice mayor Avery Johnson.

Johnson was among dozens participating in the city’s very first MLK Jr. Day march.

Members of Cleveland State Community College (CSCC), Lee University, city residents and leaders were included.

Those marching on Monday said this was symbolic of what they believe Martin Luther King, Jr. would be doing if he were alive.
