Also in news today…

On Saturday evening, Aug. 26, a horrific automobile accident took the lives of four people – including Winnie Burris, a member of the Life Care Centers of America family.

The crash was caused when a van driven by 34-year-old Darrell Brewer of Maryville, Tennessee, crossed the yellow line and hit another car head-on. Brewer was killed in the crash, along with three occupants of the car: 39-year-old Burris, her son, 13-year-old Riley Burris, both of Old Fort, Tennessee, and 13-year-old Destiny Vires, of Benton, Tennessee.

The driver of the car, 43-year-old Mitchell Armour, of Lenoir City, Tennessee, was the sole survivor of the crash. He remains in critical condition at UT Medical Center.

Burris, a licensed practical nurse, has been an associate at Life Care Center of Cleveland, Tennessee, for almost 19 years. She was most recently serving as a unit nurse. Her love of Life Care extended to her son Riley, who also served as a volunteer at the facility.

“A veil of sadness hangs over our community and our company following the tragic accident on Highway 411 in Loudon County Saturday evening,” added Life Care president Beecher Hunter. “The loss of Winnie Burris and her son Riley, along with family friend Destiny, has stunned us. Friends and family of Darrell Brewer, driver of the second car involved in the wreck, are mourning his loss, as well. We need to pray for the loved ones of all of these involved, including Mitchell Armour, the only survivor.

“Burris’ death was particularly hard for us in Life Care Centers of America,” continued Hunter. “Winnie was representative of all that is good and honorable and noble about health care in America. She lived out Life Care’s Mission and Values of placing the people she served as her greatest priority, and she embraced and demonstrated her role of loving and caring for patients, their families and her teammates. The legacy of Winnie’s much-too-short life will be etched on the hearts of the people she met and inspired for years to come.”
