From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tiffany Goodwin has been awarded the Sheriff’s Office Commendation Medal for her recent actions while assisting an officer from the Cleveland Police Department.

In April, the CPD officer was conducting a traffic stop containing two female occupants, with one of them having an active warrant. During further investigation, narcotics and currency were located on both subjects.

Deputy Goodwin responded to the scene in order to conduct a body search. While Goodwin searched both females, a loaded .38-caliber Derringer pistol was located in the possession of one of the females.

Goodwin’s thorough search prevented the female from jeopardizing the safety of the officer while in transport and entering the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility with a loaded weapon.

“Deputy Goodwin’s dedication to duty, willingness to assist and outstanding professional thoroughness exemplify the standards and commitment of Bradley County Sheriff’s Office to providing safety and security to fellow officers, no matter the agency,” said Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson.

Also from the Banner…

The first of the First Friday Festivals for downtown Cleveland will be this Friday, June 2, around the Bradley County Courthouse Square.

Billed as a family-friendly event, the square will be the site for fun, games, food and music for the first Friday of each month, through August. It begins at 6 p.m., immediately following the grand opening of the Back Alley Gallery less than half a block away.

MainStreet Cleveland and the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce have combined to give the residents of Cleveland and Bradley County, and visitors to the area, this special event, with sponsorship by Wacker Polysilicon. Each of the first Fridays of the month in June, July and August, will see the downtown square change to a place where everyone can have a good time.

Streets will be closed around the Bradley Courthouse by 5:30 p.m., but organizers point out that there is plenty of downtown parking for those coming to the first of the First Friday Festivals.

Following this Friday’s festival, there will be two more similar events downtown, on both July 7 and Aug. 4.

The events are free to the public, though there will be charges for the food. For more information on this Friday’s festival, contact MainStreet Cleveland or the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, or check either agency’s website.
