Tennessee Governor Bill Lee issued a statewide “Safer at Home” order on Monday.

Executive Order No. 22 comes after thousands of Tennessee physicians signed letters pleading with Lee to do so in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

The number of cases in Tennessee has more than doubled in the last five days. There are now 72 counties with cases of coronavirus. 

Lee has ordered all persons in Tennessee are urged to stay at home, except for when engaging in “essential activity” or “essential services.” The order is effective and enforceable at 11:59 p.m. CST on March 31 and shall remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. CST on April 14.

Those essential activities and services allowed to remain open are as follows:

  • Health care and public health operations
  • Human services operations
  • Essential infrastructure operations
  • Essential government functions
  • Food and medicine stores
  • Food and beverage production
  • Organizations that provide charitable and social services
  • Religious and ceremonial functions
  • Media
  • Gas stations and businesses needed for transportation
  • Financial institutions and insurance entities
  • Hardware and supply stores
  • Critical trades
  • Mail and shipping
  • Educational institutes
  • Laundry services
  • Restaurants for off-premises consumption
  • Supplies for work from home
  • Supplies for essential businesses and operations
  • Transportation
  • Home-based care and services
  • Residential facilities and shelters
  • Professional services
  • Manufacturing, distribution and supply chain for critical products and industries
  • Hotels and motels
  • Funeral services

Cleveland City Schools has announced planned graduation dates for high school seniors. Currently, graduation is planned for May 15th at 6PM. However, everyone involved is asked to also mark their calendars for June 12th and July 10th at 6PM as backup dates for graduation, should the CDC restrictions on large gatherings continue.

The latest statistics from the Tennessee Department of Health indicate there are a total of 1,834 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Tennessee. Bradley County now has nine confirmed cases, while Hamilton County has 40 confirmed cases. Davidson County has 364 confirmed cases, and Shelby County has 396 confirmed cases.
