From NewsChannel 9…

It’s 2021 and a new year means some new laws in Tennessee. Here are a few of note for this year:

Tennessee lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the “Holly Bobo Act” this year, which increases the age limit from 18 to 21 for endangered missing child alerts. The high-profile case of Bobo’s murder gained national attention after the 18-year-old nursing student went missing from her Parsons, Tenn. home in 2011. Her remains were found three years later in woods near her home.

911 operators in Tennessee can now provide CPR instructions to callers in an emergency. This is something that previously wasn’t allowed in all counties.

The minimum age for buying tobacco has risen to 21, according to a new law implemented by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA). TDA says anyone which looks to be under 30 will have to present a valid photo ID and be at least 21 to purchase products.

According to the new law, the Tennessee Pregnant Workers Fairness Act ensures that pregnant workers have “reasonable” accommodations in the workplace for themselves and their baby. These include things like extra restrooms breaks, limits of lifting or having ample water available.

From the Chattanooga Times Free Press…

Tennessee state agencies are working to provide support for elderly people who may feel isolated during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The “TN Hope Line” is a partnership among the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability and the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board to launch a free hotline available at 844-600-8262.

It is available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST and involves volunteers trained in active listening.
