Special equipment was used to locate a fire inside a WRCB TV transmitter on Walden’s Ridge on Tuesday morning. At 6 a.m,, an automatic fire alarm notified the 911 Center of a possible fire at 2306 Fairmount Pike. Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services responded and arrived on the scene reporting no visible signs of smoke or fire showing. Since there was a heavy smell of burning wires, firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to find a small fire in an exterior wall between the sheetrock and insulation. Fire Chief Jimmy Hillis said the building is not manned and no injuries were reported. Fire officials said the cause of the fire was electrical with minimal damage to the building. From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Dean Watson, manager of Electric Division Operations for Cleveland Utilities, provided updates to the Cleveland Board of Public Utilities during its recent session at the Tom Wheeler Training Center.

Watson was filling in for Electric Division Vice President Bart Borden who was unable to attend the May session.

Watson discussed the division’s plans to repair or replace an old, damaged transformer at the East Cleveland substation, then skipped on to a number of other projects challenging the public utility.

One of those projects is the Harrison Road/Spring Branch Industrial Park transmission line. This work order is on hold, awaiting the delivery of steel poles.

There has been some scrambling for the Cleveland State Community College switchgear and metering project.

The outage for the project had been scheduled for May 20, but was changed. This was to install the new electrical facilities, but postponed by Massey Electric, the college’s electrical contractor. This delay was also due to material-delivery issues.

The outage has been tentatively rescheduled for early June, pending a firm material delivery.

There was a brief discussion of traffic sequence changes at Keith Street and Stuart Road for Sunday morning traffic.

Timing changes were programmed and initiated by the utility’s traffic coordinator at the intersection. The changes primarily affect the westbound traffic after the conclusion of the middle and late services at First Baptist Church.

Westbound traffic maximum times now approach 60 seconds during these two peak times, allowing for better traffic flow without negatively affecting the other three traffic movements.
