At approximately 8:45 p.m. on September 9 of 2020, an inmate was found in his cell, suffering injuries from an apparent suicide attempt. He was found in this condition roughly 40 minutes after the pod officer’s cell check, which is conducted every hour on the hour. Immediately after discovering the inmate’s condition, the pod officer called for emergency assistance, receiving an urgent response from several corrections officers. Officers responded by calling 911, administering first aid and performing CPR until EMS arrived approximately six minutes after being notified of the emergency.
The inmate was transported via EMS to Tennova Hospital, at which time, he had a pulse and breathing had returned. Sheriff Lawson worked with judges in both sessions and criminal court to temporarily release the inmate from custody so that his family may be present.
The inmate of interest was taken into custody by the Cleveland Police Department and booked at the Bradley County Jail at 1:58 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8 of 2020. His charges include: Manufacturing/Selling/Delivering/Possession of Schedule 2 (meth), Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Manufacture/Deliver, Simple Possession/Casual Exchange and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He appeared in Sessions Court at 9:00 a.m. the same morning of his arrest, at which time the judge assigned a bond of $200,000. He was scheduled to appear in criminal court on Friday, September 18; he was held on no bond for these charges. In light of this incident, both judges who preside over the criminal and sessions court cases have furloughed the inmate for a period of time.
Late Thursday evening, Mix 104-1 News received an update indicating that according to the Medical Examiner, the aforementioned inmate has succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries and officially been pronounced deceased.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Andy Wilson reported seeing a tiger rise from the French Broad River, cross a street and disappear into a densely wooded area thick with kudzu at the Forks of the River Industrial Park Wednesday night, according to KCSO spokeswoman Kimberly Glenn.
The report prompted officials to set traps in the area where the tiger was spotted and grabbed the attention of media sites and social media users around the country.

Channel 3 has confirmed that two different boating incidents over the past few days are connected.
A man was rescued on the Tennessee River on Monday and a body was recovered late Wednesday night.
On Labor Day, firefighters rescued a man on the north bank of the Tennessee River.
Chattanooga Police confirm it was 45-year-old David Cagle.
The next day, TWRA officials say a boat was found adrift near Baylor School and the owner later came to get it.
Wednesday, they were called a third time after a body was found in Nickajack Lake near Moccasin Bend.
All three incidents happened close together.
The man whose body was found Wednesday night is identified as 42-year-old Adam Jones from Dunlap.
Officials confirm all three incidents were connected.
The TWRA says during a fishing trip, Jones dropped a friend off to look for artifacts along the bank. Jones did not come back for the friend, who later called for help.
Cagle told officers that Jones could have been playing a prank on him. He waited for his friend to come back. He never did.
Family members last saw Jones on Sunday. So Jones’ wife reported her husband missing and says he was last seen fishing with David Cagle on Sunday night, leaving loved ones to believe Cagle might not have mentioned Jones was still on the water.
Both Jones and Cagle have lengthy criminal histories dating back over two decades, but TWRA has no reason to believe foul play is involved right now.
Because the incident appears to be a boating fatality, the TWRA is leading the investigation. When they receive the cause of death from the medical examiner’s office they will have more details. If it isn’t boating related, they will turn it over to the Chattanooga Police Department.
