Cleveland City Council meeting recap

The Cleveland City Council met yesterday.   The new Cleveland City Fire Chief, Chris Bates, was welcomed by the Council.

The new Cleveland City Fire Chief, Chris Bates, was welcomed by the Council. 

 

The International Association of Firefighters’ Jeremiah Millan, gave a presentation to the council discussing several issues important to the organization. Those issues included a “Delayed Approach” to making changes such as the appointing of a new fire chief, which took almost a year. Battalion chiefs’ benefits, new firefighter Pay, and issues with the overall firefight firefighter pay and benefits. 

 

The Council also received an update on the Downtown Improvement Grant. The City received $300K in funds. $100K for streetscaping and $200k in funds for various projects. Some of the common improvement themes were awnings, windows, signs, entryways, and courtyards. The owner must match 25% of the project and it must be all exterior work. 

 

City Manager, Joe Fivas gave an update on the Inman St. construction project and said it is currently 3 weeks ahead of schedule. 

 

Dustin Hawkins was reappointed for an additional 3-year term to the Building Board of Adjustment and Appeals. 

 

The next City Council meeting will be held on Monday, February 26th.
