From WRCB Channel 3…

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says multiple skimmers were found at a local gas station on Monday.

The discovery was made at the Circle K at 4147 Highway 411 in Ocoee.

The Sheriff’s Office says three skimmers were found on gas pumps at the store. The skimmers are used to illegally obtain someone’s credit card information.

The Sheriff’s Office says if you bought gas from October 9-23, please watch your billing statements for any unusual activity. You should also watch your credit report for identity theft.

If you find an unauthorized purchase, please call the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 423-338-8215 and your credit card company.

The Bradley County Commission met for a work session at 7 o’clock Monday night and completed its work before the clock hit 7:30.

There was only one item on the agenda, and that was to place some questioned Bradley County Sheriff’s Office vehicles (plus a boat) up for auction — an action which had been previously stalled due to concerns raised by Commissioners Thomas Crye and Dan Rawls.

Several of the commissioners met at the BCSO garage last week to personally look at the vehicles, and held a consensus view at the time that the auction should proceed.

The list will now come up for a vote at the next meeting, which will be held Nov. 6 at the Bradley County Schools Board Room.

An emotional case ended with the acquittal of a man on trial after he was charged with raping a child. The man and his family cried tears of joy and hugged each other after he was acquitted of the charges Monday.

David Fredrick was in Bradley County Criminal Court facing the charge of the rape of a 3-year-old girl. Fredrick was indicted on the charge in November 2015, and posted bond soon after the indictment by the Bradley County grand jury. He had not been in court again until this past Wednesday, when the trial began.

Several had testified in the trial, including the victim, who is now 5 years old. Fredrick was the only person to testify at Monday’s closing day of the trial.

Fredrick said in court Monday that he “had no memory” of what he was accused of, but was still questioned if it might have happened. He said he confessed to the crime because they wanted a confession, so that’s what he gave them.

The jury spent nearly three hours in deliberations, and returned with the not guilty decision. The verdict included acquittals of any lesser-included charges that would have included aggravated child abuse.

Criminal Court Judge Sandra Donaghy thanked the jury members for their “patience and conscientious deliberations,” and excused them around 3:30 p.m. The six-woman, six-man jury were each polled, and agreed that they approved the acquittal.
