The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says it is looking into allegations of money missing from the Bradley County Circuit Court Clerk’s office, but Clerk Gayla Miller said she’s not seen any investigators.

The state agency confirmed in an email to the Times Free Press that 10th District Attorney General Steve Crump had asked for its help looking into allegations of missing funds from the clerk’s office. The agency referred all questions to his office, but Crump was out of town and could not be immediately reached for comment.

Miller said by phone yesterday afternoon she was surprised when news media showed up at her office expecting to see a raid in progress.

Miller said the office got a “clean bill of health” on its most recent audit from the state comptroller’s office.

A father from Lenoir City has filed a lawsuit in McMinn County court against the maker of the guardrail that he says caused his 17-year-old daughter’s death.

Hannah Eimers died on November 1st, 2016 in a 2-car crash on Highway 68, when she swerved to avoid a car driven by 30-year-old Gregory Branson that was trying to pass other cars in a no-passing zone.

Eimers’ vehicle collided with a X-LITE guardrail on the driver’s side. The end of the guardrail sliced through her car door and hit Hannah in the head, killing her instantly.

Eimers’ lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in McMinn County, says he wants relief for “physical, mental and financial damages incurred by the Eimers family as the result of their daughter’s death.”

Since the accident, Eimers and others have worked to have X-LITE guardrails removed across the country.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (T-DOT) started removing the guardrails from Tennessee roadways back in June. In addition to Tennessee, more than a dozen states have either halted installation of the X-LITE device or removed it from their qualified product lists.
