Bradley County deputies have arrested yet another suspect in relation to an auto burglary. Dylan Simpson on charges of Auto Burglary and Attempted Theft over $10,000.
On the morning of January 9th deputies from the patrol division responded to an auto burglary on Georgetown Road NW. The deputy initially on scene was able to obtain video surveillance and notified the Criminal Investigations Division of the call. Investigators responded and developed a description of the suspect through interviews of witnesses in the area. Just a few hours later, investigators responded with the Cleveland Police Department to a call of an unwanted subject at a business a short distance from the reported auto burglary.
The male was identified as Dylan Simpson, a 23 year old from Georgia. He confessed to entering the vehicle on Georgetown Road NW and told investigators that his intention was to find keys and steal the vehicle. Simpson was booked into the Bradley County Jail charged with Auto Burglary and Attempted Theft over $10,000.

The Bradley County Health Department has launched a new website to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine. This is in addition to, and does not replace, the ability to call the health department to sign up. Bradley County residents can call in OR sign up via the online portal.

The Bradley County Commission met on Monday covering several items of business. A report about the Tri-State Exhibition Center, indicated revenue was up over the previous year thanks to new events and opportunities because they are an open-air facility. Discussion about COVID-19 yielded that there has been some spiking post-Christmas. Also during the meeting, the Finance Committee recommended the funding of the Bell Road water project, not to exceed $20,265. This will be voted on at the next meeting.

The Cleveland City School Board also met Monday. A report from Director of Schools Dr. Russel Dyer indicated that 1,143 Macbook laptops have been received and given out to students at Cleveland Middle School. $2.9 million has been received to help with the PIE center, as well as a new $900 billion federal COVID Relief Package which will help students. Anything to do with effects of the pandemic will fit under the rules of this bill. Also discussed was the ending of the COVID-19 leave given by the Families Coronavirus Response Act. The school system will create a similar policy on its own using funding from other sources. Currently, around 500 students are still in the virtual program for the spring semester.
And finally…
The Cleveland City Council met on Monday. Mayor Kevin Brooks gave a “State of the City” address, discussing the pandemic, political divisiveness, and other issues from 2020. Mayor Brooks stated that there are about 250,000 vehicle trips on a daily basis. Residential growth is at an unprecedented rate. A resolution was passed authorizing the Mayor to sign a Software as a Service Subscription Agreement with WatchGuard for body cam storage. Body cameras have been very beneficial to the city and the community. Footage needs to be stored for a minimum of 5-7 years depending on the criminal offense.
