Topping our news today, an update on a story from yesterday…

We previously reported about an accidental death that had taken place on Monday at Waste Connections, located at 386 Industrial Drive. At 5PM Monday, officers responded to that location and made contact with a witness who stated he found his coworker unresponsive. Reports indicated that a truck had fallen on an employee who was performing maintenance over the holiday, but did not identify the victim.

The victim has now been identified as Raymond McCann, age 28. The investigation is ongoing at this time, however the death is being ruled an industrial accident.

Also in news today…

Those traveling near the Dollar General on Harrison Pike were in for an icy surprise Tuesday evening. A multiple-vehicle accident occurred as a result of ice on the road. Sources indicate that the water line feeding the Dollar General had frozen and burst on the customer side of the water meter, which is then the customer’s responsibility to repair. Apparently, repairs were not made, and the water continued to flow onto Harrison Pike. As temperatures began dropping, ice began forming on Harrison Pike, leading to the accident. The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, the road was shut down, and traffic was detoured for a period of time. Utility crews were also dispatched to the scene, as the utility made the decision to shut off water service to the store pending repairs due to the ice hazard it was creating for motorists on Harrison Pike. The Tennessee Department of Transportation was requested to bring salt to the scene to resolve the icy conditions on the road, as Harrison Pike is a state highway.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Bradley County taxpayers who missed the first enrollment period for the Trustee’s Office partial payment program for 2018 property taxes still have a second chance to sign up.

It starts Wednesday and will continue through Friday, Feb. 9.

Although the second sign-up ends Feb. 9, the first tax payments for those in the program for 2018 taxes will be due March 15.

Although most enrollees in partial payment prefer monthly installments, other options are also on the table including quarterly payments, twice a year or some other frequency, provided it can be negotiated by the taxpayers and the Trustee’s Office.

Taxes can be paid by check, credit card, debit card, cash or automatic withdrawal. Residents can pay their taxes by sending their checks in the mail or by dropping by the trustee’s temporary office currently located in the former SouthEast Bank building at the corner of 17th and Keith streets.

Details about the partial payment program, or other tax-related options, can be obtained by visiting the Trustee’s Office or by calling 423-728-7248.
