Chattanooga Police are investigating after a student says a teacher at Ooltewah High School sent them inappropriate text messages. The district says the teacher has since resigned from the district.
According to Chattanooga Police, Chandler Morris has been charged with solicitation of a minor, and was issued a citation. He has up to 30 days to turn himself in. According to Hamilton County Schools spokesperson Tim Hensley, Morris was a teacher and an assistant football coach at the school.
A statement from the school district Tuesday afternoon says the OHS student reported the incident Tuesday morning, and school administration immediately called law enforcement. Chattanooga Police responded and began investigating.
Hensley says administrators also reported the incident to the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) and Tennessee State Board of Education, keeping with the Hamilton County Board of Education’s policies.
Hensley says Morris resigned Tuesday afternoon.

Tennessee Department of Veterans Services Commissioner Courtney Rogers and Tennessee State Veterans’ Home Board Executive Director Ed Harries will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Bradley County Tennessee State Veterans’ Home today at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) in Cleveland.
The Bradley County Tennessee State Veterans’ Home will be a single-story 108-bed intermediate and skilled care nursing facility and will span 110,000 square feet. Efforts have been underway for 16 years to locate a state veterans’ home in Cleveland for the nearly 50,000 veterans who live in the six-county area.

The Rhea County Sheriff’s Department says a man was killed by a falling tree on Tuesday.
It happened on Dixie Lee Highway shortly before 2:30 p.m.
Detective Matt Rose says Thursten Keathley was cutting timber with his son when a tree fell on him.
Det. Rose Says Keathley, who was in his 70s, died at the scene.
