Travelers gearing up for Memorial Day weekend in Tennessee can expect a hassle-free journey on the highways, thanks to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

Beginning Friday, May 24, at noon until Tuesday, May 28, at 6:00 a.m., all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes will be temporarily suspended. This move aims to ensure maximum roadway capacity for the expected surge of travelers during the holiday weekend.

While long-term construction projects may still cause some lane closures, motorists should be prepared for reduced speed limits in work zones. Violators caught speeding through work zones where workers are present may face fines of up to $500, in addition to court fees and potential insurance premium hikes.

AAA predicts a record-breaking 926,251 Tennesseans will travel for Memorial Day, with the majority, opting for road trips. To stay informed about construction activity and traffic conditions, travelers can visit www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic or call 511 for live updates.
