U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN) announced on Sunday that he tested positive for COVID-19.

U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN) has been in quarantine after he made close contact with U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), who recently tested positive for COVID-19.

Rep. Fleischmann told Channel 3 he had come into contact with Rep. Bilirakis last Saturday since they share an apartment.

Rep. Fleischmann received the news hours after the U.S. Capitol was stormed by supporters of President Donald Trump.

Rep. Bilirakis had tweeted around 3:29 p.m. on Wednesday that he was positive for the virus.

Fleischman said that the riot was going on around the same time as the tweet had been posted, so he could not see it or even get the congressman’s texts at that time until later.

He said since he had no idea of Congressman Bilirakis’ diagnosis until after he had gone to the Electoral College certification before the violence ensued.

He added he was complying with CDC guidelines, however, and when he found out about the diagnosis, he was allowed to vote in the second round of the electoral certification behind Plexiglass.

Tennessee officials are launching a statewide online scheduling system in the coming days for COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

The effort aims to prevent people from having to wait in line for hours, sometimes only to be turned away because there are no doses left, state Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey told reporters Friday. That’s been an issue in Chattanooga, for instance, where there have been long lines of people waiting in their cars as Hamilton County opened vaccine eligibility for those 75 and older.
