Rick Norton reports: To honor the Bradley County son credited with planting the seed almost two decades ago for a Cleveland-based veterans home, members of Bradley Central High School’s Class of ’64 have established the John Simmons Memorial Fund.

In partnership with the Community Foundation of Cleveland and Bradley County, the fund’s proceeds will assist facility residents — veterans, veterans’ spouses and Gold Star parents — beyond government-provided funding.

Scheduled to open in Spring 2022, the 108-bed facility is well under construction on more than a 30-acre site on Westland Drive off the APD-40 bypass along Cleveland’s southern edge.

To contribute to the John Simmons Memorial Fund, donors may send a check to the Community Foundation of Cleveland and Bradley County with “John Simmons Memorial Fund” in the memo line; or, donate online at https://clevelandbradleyfoundation.org/john-simmons.

Checks should be mailed to: Community Foundation, P.O. Box 4474, Cleveland TN 37320.
