From News 12: A man was arrested on charges of murdering his wife last week in McMinn County, the Daily Post Athenian reported on Tuesday.

 

Deputies found the body of Debbie Johnson on the front porch on Country Road 312 near Sweetwater on Thursday.

 

Police are accusing James Johnson of the homicide of his wife on May 30.

 

Neighbors reported they heard a gunshot and then saw her husband fleeing the scene.

 

Authorities had responded to that location before for other domestic disturbance complaints against him.

 

He got two years of probation for an assault in 2023.

 

At around 9 p.m. on May 30, officers arrested Johnson in West Point, Georgia for several charges, including DUI.

 

Authorities have begun the process of extraditing him back to McMinn County, Tennessee.
