The Cleveland Bradley Chamber of Commerce held their 94th annual meeting last night at Life Care Centers of America. President and CEO Mike Griffin looked back on the accomplishments of a great 2019 for the Chamber. Incoming chairman Mike Thomason looked ahead, while outgoing chairwoman Kim Casteel reviewed the accomplishments of the past year.
The major award winners last night were the Robert W Varnell Junior Leadership Award to Cleveland Utilities President and CEO Tim Henderson. The MC Headrick Free Enterprise Award went to John Sheehan, President of the Ocoee foundation.

Athens Police Department has launched an investigation after a home invasion Monday night.
Officers were dispatched to a residence located on Village Lane around 10:00 p.m. A woman at the residence told officers she heard someone repeatedly ring her doorbell, but was unable to see anyone on the front porch.
She told investigators that she decided to open up the door to see who was there, that’s when she was confronted by several people wearing dark clothing.
The alleged suspects barged there way inside of the home with firearms, according to the woman.
The victim said the suspects ordered her to give them money that was inside of the house.
Investigators say they were unable to find the alleged suspects, the investigation is ongoing.
Athens Police urges the public to be cautious and avoid opening their doors without ensuring they recognize the individuals outside, especially at night when there isn’t a lot of daylight.

Also in news today…
Amateur radio clubs in Bradley and McMinn Counties worked alongside one another during Winter Field Day, a communications exercise held on Jan. 25 and 26 to prepare participants for conditions they could encounter when a disaster severely impacts communication networks.
For the event, the two groups used the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club’s clubhouse that is equipped with radios needed to communicate with other participants across the U.S.
On its website the Winter Field Day Association explains the importance of preparing for a disaster.
The WFDA believes “that emergency communications in a winter environment is just as important as the preparations and practice that is done each summer but with some operational concerns.”
Both clubs are active supplying communications in their respective counties. More information can be found on each club’s website.
