The Cleveland Metropolitan Planning Organization approved on Wednesday pursuing an expansion of the Cleveland Urban Area Transit System.
Greg Thomas, MPO coordinator, said under the plans the Gold Route would be modified to serve various locations along North Lee Highway up to the vicinity of Stuckey Drive.
Gold Route service to the Senior Center on Urbane Road would be served by a new Purple Route.
The new route, which would require additional personnel and equipment, would serve portions of the current Red Route, North Inman Street, the Whirlpool plant site, Old Tasso Road, the Senior Center and Bradley Square Mall.
The Red Route is proposed to be extended along Spring Place Road east of APD-40 in order to serve the Fresh and Low grocery store, which is hoped would address the food desert concerns in the area.
Additional costs are estimated be a $46,818 match in the first year and $33,653 in second year and third years of service.

The skies were clear, the temperature comfortable and the roadways unobstructed on May 1: perfect conditions for an election.
According to Fran Green, administrator of elections for Bradley County, Tuesday’s election went smoothly with no major issues causing problems for voters or poll workers.
The Election Commission has not yet set a meeting to certify the election, but Green said she anticipates it will be scheduled for next week. She said certification must be done not before the first Monday following the election, and not after the third Monday following the election; therefore, certification must take place between May 7th-21st.
In addition, May 1st candidates have until July 10 to turn in their campaign finance forms to the Election Commission.

Metro Police said the suspect in a shooting inside Opry Mills Mall on Thursday afternoon will be charged with criminal homicide.
Police said Thursday night Justin Golson, 22, of Antioch, would be charged with criminal homicide in the death of Demarco Churchwell, 22, of Nashville, in a hallway across from the Old Navy store.
Police said two or three people were involved in a physical dispute. One of the men fired at least two shots, striking the victim in the hallway across from the Old Navy store. Churchwell was struck in the neck, and later died from his injuries shortly after arriving at Skyline Medical Center.
