In news today…

The Bradley County Commission met on Tuesday, covering several items of business. Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis reported there are currently 26 active COVID-19 cases in Bradley County as of meeting time, with two deaths in the past week. Currently, 63,408 have been vaccinated with at least one shot. Several budget resolutions were passed, including fixing the tax levy for Bradley County at 1.4392, down from 1.7821; a resolution fixing the tax levy for the county fire district; a resolution making appropriations for various funds, departments, institutions, offices, and agencies; as well as a resolution for appropriations for non-profit organizations. All budget motions passed, but were opposed by Commissioner Charlotte Peak. Later in the meeting, she spoke about concerns she has around the budget, and why she voted against all budget resolutions of the evening.

A 24-year-old Cleveland, Tn., man was killed late Monday night after his pickup truck went out of control and struck another pickup. His 1998 Dodge 1500 was then struck by a westbound vehicle.

It happened when Brandon Williams was going west on Asheville Highway near the Andrew Johnson Highway split in Knoxville just before 11 a.m.

The Williams vehicle went across into the eastbound lane, then wound up back in the westbound lane.

No one was wearing a seat belt.

A crash on I -75 southbound caused delays near the 19-mile marker Tuesday afternoon.

A semi-truck hauling an empty trailer left the roadway before striking a power pole and bursting into flames.

The driver was treated for minor injuries by EMS. 

Three fire companies responded to the incident.
