Garett Hammontree, the former Charleston city commissioner accused of statutory rape, pleaded guilty Monday morning, Sept. 11, in Bradley County General Sessions court, and received a 12-year prison sentence.
The former Charleston city commissioner faced 4 counts of statutory rape by an authority figure, according to the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.
Hammontree’s original indictment said he was accused of having sexual contact with a victim between the ages of 13 and 18.
