Mobile home fire claims life of Bradley County girl

UPDATE: A 12-year-old girl, who was injured in a mobile home fire early Monday morning in southeast Bradley County has died, according to Adam Lewis, executive assistant to Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis.

 

The girl, whose name has not been released, was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta to that facility’s burn clinic. Her injuries were severe, with about 60% of her body sustaining burns from the fire.

 

According to information released by the Bradley County Fire-Rescue, the service responded to a 911 call around 11:45 p.m. Monday to 4166 Dalton Pike, where the 12-year-old was trapped inside the burning mobile home. When BCFR crews arrived, they discovered the structure engulfed in flames and filled with smoke.

 

BCFR information revealed the firefighters on the scene, while battling the fire, entered the mobile home to search for the girl, who was eventually located in a bedroom. The girl was unresponsive when found by the firefighters and was carefully removed and treated by the Bradley County Emergency Medical Service before being transported to Tennova Healthcare – Cleveland.

 

Her mother, who identified herself on social media as Mary Stafford, was also treated by BCEMS at the scene of the fire. She was transported to Tennova and also flown to the Atlanta hospital. Her injuries were not as severe as her daughter’s, according to Lewis.

Late in the evening on Monday, emergency crews from Bradley County Fire-Rescue were dispatched to 4166 Dalton Pike to respond to a report of a structure fire where a 12-year-old girl was believed to be trapped inside. Upon reaching the scene, the firefighters discovered a mobile home that was already ablaze and filled with smoke.

 

As firefighters arrived to begin battling the flames, rescue teams entered the mobile home to search for the missing girl.  Fortunately, they eventually located her in a bedroom but found her unresponsive. With great care, rescue crews were able to lift and bring her out of the bedroom window and pass her to waiting EMS teams for immediate medical attention.

 

The young girl was successfully revived en route to Tennova Hospital, and her condition was stabilized by Tennova staff. The extent of her injuries was severe, with burns covering 60% of her body. She was quickly flown to the Grady Memorial Hospital Burn Clinic in Atlanta, where she remains in critical condition.

 

The girl’s mother was able to escape the fire on her own and was treated by EMS on the scene and at Tennova Hospital before also being flown to receive further care for her injuries.
