From the Chattanooga Times Free Press: A woman was arrested after allegedly fleeing police and causing a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday evening on Interstate 75, shutting down southbound lanes for three hours, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Haleigh Gentry-Mccord, 29, was arrested and charged with felony evading, theft and traffic violations.

According to the release, just before 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a police officer saw a black Nissan Armada possibly connected to a store theft and initiated a traffic stop on I-75 south near East Brainerd Road.

The driver — later identified as Gentry-Mccord — tried to flee, pulling away, changing lanes and causing a crash involving five other vehicles, the news release stated.

The woman and a passenger in her vehicle were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in another vehicle was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Three vehicles including the Nissan were towed, and the other vehicles were able to be driven from the scene, according to the release.

An initial news release from the Police Department identified the driver as a 28-year-old woman.
