Topping our news today…

Mix 104.1 and Talk 101.3 The Buzz would like to announce our Hurricane Michael Relief Rally, this Friday from 6 until 10 AM at Life Care Center of America Campbell Center on Keith Street.

We are asking our audience to bring items for the hurricane victims in the panhandle of Florida, as we will have relief organizations on site with us Friday morning at Life Care. Organizations include Operation Compassion, the American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army.

We will collect water, non-perishable food, baby items, hygiene items, and financial donations. All items collected Friday will be disbursed between the front line relief organizations that are with us on Friday.

Once again that is this Friday morning from 6 until 10 at Life Care Center of America Campbell Center, the Mix 104.1 and Talk 101.3 The Buzz Hurricane Michael Relief Rally.

After a small dip in 2016, tourism in Bradley County experienced a 5.5 percent increase in tourism revenue growth for 2017 over the previous year. Bradley County’s total for tourism revenue tops $141.9 million, the highest ever reported.

These are the latest figures published by the U.S. Travel Association in a study commissioned by the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. The study was released at the Tennessee Governor’s Conference on Tourism held recently in Kingsport.

The study reported 2017 tourism revenue for the state of Tennessee totaled $20.8 billion, a 6.83 percent increase over 2016.

The annual study, The Economic Impact of Travel on Tennessee Counties, showed the combined local and state taxes generated by tourists to be $11.9 million.

These expenditures by visitors save local residents $304 per household.

The Varnell Police Department is searching for a woman they say committed a handful of crimes with a weapon early Saturday morning.

Claudia Y. Avila-Castillo is wanted by Varnell PD. In a Facebook post, the agency says Avila-Castillo should be considered armed and dangerous and did possess an edged weapon.

VPD says Avila-Castillo stole a 2012 Dodge Challenger from Cattelman Drive and assaulted the victim.

The vehicle was recovered just before noon on Saturday. Castillo is still wanted. VPD asks that you do not approach Castillo.
