Lee University Online has been ranked in the top 60 of U.S. News and World Report’s Best Online Bachelor’s Programs.

The 2018 ranking included 346 colleges and universities of all sizes, nationwide. U.S. News chose factors that weigh how programs are being delivered and the effectiveness at awarding affordable degrees in a reasonable amount of time. The programs were each given a score in categories including faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, student engagement, and peer reputation. Lee ranked 56 on the list, moving up 92 spots since the 2017 ranking.

Lee University Online offers a flexible approach toward an affordable, accessible, and achievable degree program. Online degree programs include the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Bible and Theology, Business Administration, Christian Studies, Criminal Justice (2 emphases areas), Ministry Leadership (8 emphases areas), and Liberal Studies (degree completion). Bradley County Commissioner Dan Rawls proposed a resolution Monday that would request that Gov. Bill Haslam and the Tennessee General Assembly pass legislation to prohibit trains from stopping and blocking railway crossing for any extended period of time.

Rawls said the incidents have become numerous over the past few years, but discussions with Norfolk Southern have always been “one-sided.”

Rawls said there have been two such incidents within the county over the past month.

He said a call made over the Christmas weekend concerning Dockery Lane being blocked to automobile traffic “was a futile attempt.”

Rawls said after getting a contact number from state Sen. Mike Bell, the train was unhitched to leave an access opening at the railroad crossing.

The Cleveland Daily Banner attempted to contact the railroad before the holidays, but has yet to receive a response after being told by the railroad it would comment on the incidents Rawls cited.

The Bradley County Commission agreed Monday to proceed with voting on authorizing Mayor D. Gary Davis to finalize an agreement that would upgrade the county government’s email servers.

After a required bidding process, Wrightcore, an information technology company with locations throughout the Southeast, provided a low bid of $61,862.

Commissioner Mike Hughes, who serves as chairman of the IT Committee, said there have been some discussions about using those funds to make some repairs to the EMS building on Paul Huff Parkway.

Davis said the EMS has money in its budget to get the first phase of those repairs completed, with the remainder to occur in the new budget year beginning in July.

Hughes added there has been “way too much time and money” on the county’s internet services and it has been worked on for over a year.

Commissioner Charlotte Peak said she had wanted to delay the internet upgrades.

Dr. Lindsay Hathcock, executive assistant to the mayor, said the upgrades are not just for email services. Other upgrades are required just for the property assessor to accept new images, as there is not enough room on the system.

Commissioner Thomas Crye said the county “needed to join the 21st century with this stuff” and recommended the upgrades progress forward.

The contract will be on next week’s voting agenda meeting, which will be at noon next Tuesday (instead of Monday) because of the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday holiday.
