A large vehicle fire slowed traffic on I-24 in Chattanooga on Thursday night.

The fire was reported around 9:00 p.m. on I-24 West near mile marker 174 less than a mile after the Brown’s Ferry Road Exit.

According to TDOT, the shoulder and one of two lanes on I-24 were closed on the westbound side as crews worked to put out the fire.

The lane and shoulder have since reopened.

Injuries, if any, and the cause of the fire are unknown at this time.

Autumn Hughes reports: The severe storm system that moved across the area Wednesday night caused a lot of concern, but no reported damage.

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, strong showers and thunderstorms were expected across the southern plateau and the southern Tennessee Valley Wednesday night. Damaging winds were an expected primary hazard, with the possibility of one or two tornadoes, according to the NWS.

In addition to severe storms, some localized flash flooding were also be possible across East Tennessee.

Neither Cleveland Utilities nor Volunteer Energy Cooperative noted any local power outages on their social media notifications.

According to Troy Spence, director of the Cleveland-Bradley County Emergency Management Agency, the county opened its storm ready rooms from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. He said 58 people sought shelter at the locations across the county.
