From the Herald-News: Emergency responders from federal, state and local agencies will join Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) personnel in an emergency preparedness graded exercise involving the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

 

The exercise is part of an ongoing series of training drills and exercises required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to ensure an effective and coordinated response to protect the health and safety of the public in the unlikely event of an emergency at Watts Bar.

 

Details on nuclear emergency planning and the steps residents close to Watts Bar should take during any nuclear event can be found at www.tva.com/prepare, and in calendars sent each year to every household within a 10-mile radius of each of TVA’s three nuclear plants.

 

Results of the exercise will be shared at a public meeting on Friday, Aug. 18, at 11 a.m., at the Comfort Inn located at 2811 Decatur Pike, Athens, Tenn.
