From NewsChannel 9: Charges are pending after authorities in Tennessee discovered almost 2 dozen dogs in cages 100-degree heat at a vacant home Tuesday.

A release from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says arriving investigators heard numerous dogs barking at a home in Grinnell Drive in Lawrenceburg.

The release calls this “concerning” because “the house on the property is unfit for human or animal lodging,” saying it’s “vacant and in total disrepair.”

Investigators first found 7 adult dogs.

“Each in its own cage were being housed in what appeared to be a renovated garage area,’ the release says.

Then, investigators heard more barking coming from a shed made of concrete blocks in the rear of the property.

There, they found 14 more dogs. 9 of them were puppies, who were divided in 2 separate cages that “were too small for them and they were exposed to temperatures in excess of 100 degrees,’ the release says.

To make matters worse, there was no food or water available to the dog, and they were ‘covered in excrement.’

Animal control officers quickly took all the dogs to safety, and a veterinarian is now evaluating their overall health.

‘Some of the dogs are being more extensively treated for physical injuries that they have,’ the release says.

Charges are now pending against the property’s owner.
