From NewsChannel 9: Students who attend the University of Tennessee, including UTC in Chattanooga, could soon be paying more to attend the school.

The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees is expected to vote on potential tuition and fee increases later this month.

If passed, the proposal would increase payments for students by almost $300, a 3 percent increase.

The university says current funding from the state and donors is not keeping pace with inflation and employee salaries.

The new revenue would also go toward operational costs and mental health services for students.

The U.T. Board of Trustees says the average undergraduate already receives more than $9,000 dollars in financial aid.

You have a chance to weigh in on the vote between now and June 20th. Go here to learn how.

Trustees will hold a vote on June 30th.
