Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance with locating a person of interest regarding an incident at a residence on Monday, November 20th.

Devin Shane Smith, age 18, is wanted for questioning in regards to shots being fired at a house located on 2nd St. N.E.

Anyone with information about Smith’s location or details of the shooting is asked to contact the sheriff’s office Crime Tip Line at 423-728-7336 or send a message through the agency’s Facebook page, facebook.com/bradleycountysheriff.

From News Channel 9…

Dozens of people were evacuated from the court side of the Bradley County Judicial complex Monday afternoon.

Bradley County Sheriff’s Office spokesman James Bradford says a clerk opened an envelope that had a white powder inside.

No one was hurt, and Bradford says the evacuation was as a precaution.

At 1:30, the Bradley County Sheriff’s Department tweeted the all-clear, saying the chemical was determined not to be hazardous.

From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

“We are standing in His presence in holy ground.”

That song ended the short service Sunday for Westmore Church of God, as the church members moved from their normal site of worship — on 25th Street at Wolfe Drive — to their new location off Candies Creek Road, on Legacy Parkway.

A couple of hundred members, from youngsters to the elderly, attended the special groundbreaking ceremony for Westmore Church of God Sunday. Senior Pastor Kelvin Page said he did not know how many would show up on the Thanksgiving holiday, and was impressed with the number who did come to the event.

The new site for the church will eventually replace the older structure. Less than two weeks ago it was announced that a buyer for Westmore’s Wolfe Drive property had been secured — local businessman Lynn Jones. The church is now leasing its former location during the 18-24-month construction period.

The new site for the multimillion dollar worship complex and ministry center is where Rolling Hills Golf Club was for many years.

Several members of Cleveland government attended the groundbreaking, as did County Commissioners Robert Rominger and Bill Winters. Winters is a member of the church.

With the deadline to apply fast approaching, more volunteers are needed to help mentor local high school seniors in the Tennessee Promise college scholarship program.

The organization which manages the program in this area, tnAchieves, has set Dec. 1 as the deadline for adults to join this program as mentors.

Being a mentor involves communicating regularly with a few assigned students. Most of a mentor’s communication with his or her students will consist of sending reminders by email, text message or phone call. Sterling estimates the average mentor spends about an hour a month contacting students and answering any questions they have.

One need not be an expert on every aspect of the college-going process. In fact, tnAchieves has each mentor attend a free training session to learn how to answer students’ questions.

Dr. Bill Seymour, president of Cleveland State Community College, said earlier this academic year that Tennessee Promise has successfully helped many students enroll in college, thanks in part to its supportive volunteer mentors.

To become a mentor, one must be at least 21 years old and be willing to undergo a background check. Visit www.tnachieves.org for more information or to apply.
