An effort by Bradley County Commissioner Dan Rawls to rescind the Commission’s funding pledge to Cleveland State for their capital campaign failed at the Commission meeting on Monday. Rawls wanted his fellow commissioners to take back their support of $250,000 for the Cleveland State Community College capital campaign. However his measure failed 10-2 with Charlotte Peak siding with Rawls.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is working to determine how a Bradley County inmate died.

The TBI said Fawn Zanette Branham, 54, was found unresponsive in her cell Monday afternoon.

Correctional officers ad on-site medical staff tried to revive Branham, but they were unable to, a Bradley County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson explained.

She was pronounced dead shortly after Bradley County Emergency Medical Services arrived at the jail.

Per the agency’s protocol, the 10th Judicial District Attorney’s Office was immediately notified which led to the response of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to conduct an investigation.

Bradley County’s Parks & Recreation Department has dropped its football and cheerleading programs this fall, due to low participation

Parks & Recreation Director Andy Lockhart told members of the Bradley County Commission during a recent work session that only 40 kids signed up.. He added that to play league football, there need to be 60 players per age group.

Commissioner Thomas Crye said he is concerned about the impact “on the children in need” who don’t otherwise have an opportunity to participate in football. Lockhart said the offer was extended for youngsters interested in football to enroll in other fall sports.
