From WATE: A Tennessee Highway Patrol captain is recovering after she was injured in a head-on collision while responding to tornado damage in Morgan County.

 

A preliminary report from THP states that the crash happened on State Highway 62 in Monroe County around 7:15 p.m. THP Captain Stacey Heatherly was driving west on the highway when a 2022 Ram pickup traveling east failed to maintain crossed the center line and struck Heatherly’s cruiser.

 

Both Heatherly and the driver of the Ram pickup were listed as injured. No passengers were listed in either vehicle, however, the report states that charges may be pending against the driver of the pickup truck.

 

Heatherly was responding with a strike team to assist the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office with tornado damage, according to a THP spokesperson.

 

“She is in good spirits and on the road to recovery,” the spokesperson said, adding that Heatherly was appreciative of those checking on her.
