From NewsChannel 9: An elementary school in Cleveland will soon expand to meet student demand.

The Cleveland City Board of Education announced Tuesday it has approved a series of strategic infrastructure and facilities plans within the district.

Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School has been allocated $2.9 million to build 6 new classrooms.

That is a result of a 33 percent increase in student enrollment in the last 20 years, a release says.

The board also approved a $1.3 million contract “for additional renovations in the new administrative office building on Raider Drive,” according to the release.

Work on that project will begin in January, with an expected completion in July.

The board says work on expanding Candy’s Creek Cherokee Elementary School will start in June and is expected to be complete in January 2025.

The board says the expansion and investment won’t stop there. It says plans are already underway to explore “the possibility of a new intermediate school and an expansion at the high school to accommodate the evolving needs of the student population,” the release says.
