From Local 3 News: The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a phone scam in which the caller poses a member of law enforcement.

The sheriff’s office says the scammer will pretend to be a past or present employee of the BCSO, who tells the victim that there is a warrant for his or her arrest or that the victim missed jury duty in an attempt to get money.

Here are some tips from the BCSO to keep in mind when it comes to these scam tactics:

1. If there is ever a warrant out for your arrest, you will find out in person and never by a phone call.

2. Do NOT give money in any form to someone who solicits it over the phone, until you verify the caller’s authenticity.

3. Download ANTI-SPAM apps on your phone, such as RoboKiller, to prevent unwanted calls like this.

4. If you have any suspicion of fraudulent activity, do not give the caller any of your personal information. HANG UP and block the number.

5. And as always, when in doubt, call us the BCSO at 423-728-7311.
