From News 12: A brush fire spread to a home in Etowah overnight and one person was injured.

The fire happened at 1 a.m. at 205 County Road 906 in East Etowah.

McMinn County sheriff’s deputies said that winds caused a brush fire to spread, and it then caught two vehicles on fire. The fire also caught a home on fire with a female resident trapped inside, authorities said.

Tri-State Mutual Aid Association said the fire completely destroyed one home.

However, firefighters rescued the entrapped woman. Crews also evacuated endangered residents, according to the Englewood Fire Department.

“Many of the residents who were asleep were unaware of the grave danger the rapidly spreading fire posed,” the fire department stated.

Firefighters said they limited the fire damage to one home, two vehicles and several acres of woods.

Englewood fire crews said they faced intense heat and almost no visibility from the “choking smoke.” They added that wind gusts reached over 60 mph and threw embers around for several hours.

Fire departments in Etowah, Athens, Madisonville, West Polk and Bradley County all responded to help in this fire.
