From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Christy Armstrong reports: Cleveland High School has received the inaugural Fitzgerald Family Foundation Innovation Award, which has given the school $15,000 to use to create a “makerspace” for students.

Foundation leader Dr. Rodney Fitzgerald presented the award to CHS Principal Autumn O’Bryan during Cleveland City Schools’ district-wide Convocation on Monday.

The competitive award of up to $15,000 is granted if the selection committee feels a school has a school-wide plan for implementing the new innovation and if “a plan for measurable impact” can be identified.

Fitzgerald said the committee carefully reviewed all applications to see which ones contained the most innovative ideas, and its members decided to present the first award to CHS.

From WRCB Channel 3…

As a series of thunderstorms popped up Tuesday afternoon, a microburst swept over the Chattanooga Metropolitan Aiport and removed section of the terminals roof.

Channel 3 viewers shared photos of the partially naked rotunda, with shards of what appeared to be insulation peeking through.

Channel 3 Chief Meteorologist Paul Parys says the damage may have been due to a microburst, a sudden downforce of wind. He explained that the airport sustained a 56mph gust during the event.

Crews were seen on the perimeter of the building, surveying damage.

No injuries were reported, according to a Facebook post from the airport.

From WDEF Channel 12…

Air traffic was affected yesterday afternoon at CHA after a small plane made a crash landing.

The rear landing gear would not come down, so the plane crash landed on the air strip at Lovell Field.

The plane came to a stop in the grass next to the runway.

None of the passengers on board were injured.

This incident was not related to the storm that caused damage to the dome of the airport earlier in the afternoon.
