One of the teens who died in a residential fire in Birchwood early Sunday evening was a Bradley County resident.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Matt Lea identified the girl as Katelyn Woods, 19, of Bradley County. The other teen killed in the residential fire was identified as Logan Kennedy, 18, a resident of the Birchwood home.

The fire occurred near the 12100 block of Dolly Pond Road with the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department responding. When first reported, fire personnel were told that there was possible entrapment. Lea said that when the firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames.

According to one of Kennedy’s family members, he was living at the home which belonged to his grandparents. Woods’ Bradley County address was not available from either the sheriff’s office or fire department reports. Her Facebook page indicated she was a graduate of Bradley Central High School.

The family member also said that from what she has been told, Kennedy and Woods were “good kids.” No instance of any type of foul play has been determined in the 6 p.m. fire.

Investigation into the origin and cause of the fire is currently underway by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department, according to Lea.

The trial of truck driver Benjamin Brewer in connection with six traffic deaths near the Ooltewah exit of I-75 has been reset for Monday, Jan. 22.

Jury selection in Nashville will be the prior Thursday.

The case was last postponed because of an issue about a federal witness giving defense proof about a blood test.

A test by a federal lab gave a lower level of meth in the defendant’s blood than the state test.

Judge Don Poole has set down an order that the defense can take the deposition of the federal lab official.

U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais on Tuesday formally announced he is seeking re-election to a fifth term as Tennessee’s 4th District congressman.

DesJarlais, a Republican from South Pittsburg, Tenn., said in a news release he wants to continue strengthening the nation’s military from his seat on the House Armed Services Committee.

He said the 4th District in Middle Tennessee is part of an aerospace and defense technology corridor that includes Fort Campbell, Arnold Air Force Base, Redstone Arsenal, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and more.

DesJarlais faces a challenger in the August 2018 Republican primary from Jack Maddux, a businessman, U.S. Navy veteran and former police officer from Cleveland, Tenn. On his website, Maddux calls himself a strong constitutional conservative, active in church and community projects.

The 4th district includes Bedford, Bledsoe, Grundy, Lincoln, Marion, Marshall, Meigs, Moore, Rhea, Rutherford, Sequatchie and Warren counties, plus significant portions of Bradley, Maury, and Van Buren counties.
