From the Cleveland Daily Banner…

Tim Siniard reports: When Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks exited his car on June 30 to enter Tennova-Cleveland, his wife Kim, had these parting words: “Come home to me.”

The mayor fulfilled his wife’s plea and is now recovering at home after being released Friday evening from Tennova-Cleveland. He had spent 11 harrowing days undergoing treatment for double pneumonia and COVID-19.

Brooks told the Cleveland Daily Banner on Saturday that he wanted to thank Tennova’s medical staff for their expert care.

Brooks said he was able to be released from the hospital after his doctors determined he could breathe on his own without the aid of an oxygen mask.

In news today…

This past Tuesday, there was an incident outside of courts at the Justice Center when a female citizen was stung by a bee. After receiving the sting, she began to experience symptoms of anaphylactic shock from a bee allergy and called 911.

At the time, the caller’s speech was muffled and incoherent due to the allergic reaction she was experiencing. Dispatchers heard crying and gasping over the phone, but were able to track the call to the court side of the Justice Center.

Four deputies from the 400 shift were sent to the location of the call. Sgt. Paul Singleton and Deputies Tiffany Goodwin, Jeff Wagner and Dakota Blackwell arrived at the Justice Center and began searching the area for the distressed caller. Shortly after they began searching, deputies found the woman in her parked vehicle. She was responsive, but unable to breath.

Once they quickly assessed the situation and determined that she was in anaphylactic shock, one of the deputies rushed over to the jail where he retrieved an EpiPen from the booking office. Another deputy removed the cap and gave the EpiPen to the woman, who was able to administer it to herself.

EMS arrived shortly after the EpiPen was self-administered and transported the patient for further medical treatment.

Sheriff Lawson said he is extremely proud of our officers who responded and how they handled this situation. I believe that officers like Sgt. Singleton, Deputy Goodwin, Deputy Wagner and Deputy Blackwell make our county a better place every day. They sprang into action without a second thought, showed care and concern for someone in a desperate situation and handled the entire incident in a way that our community should be proud of — all out of a selfless desire to do the right thing.

The Chattanooga fire department says that 36-year-old Robert Franklin, of Crossville was arrested and charged with two counts of arson on Saturday.

Franklin is accused of setting fires at both Precision Tune Auto Care, and southern Insurance associates on July 4th.

The business are just a block away from each other.

According to the fire department, surveillance caught Franklin and his vehicle at the businesses that were targeted.

CFD says that the motive is unclear at this time because Franklin has not been cooperative with investigators.

The fire department says that he doesn’t have any connection to either business.
