U.S. Sen. Bob Corker told the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce Public Affairs Committee during a visit Friday that “everyday is a new day in Washington.”
The chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee took the local group on a wide-ranging view of the country, the world and the government.
Corker said word trade has been an amazing thing over the last 15 months, and the latest situation is with China. He said China is ripping us off as it related to intellectual property. He said this is being done in two ways: First, they steal our intellectual properties through cyber activities they have under way. Almost every corporation in America has been attacked by China trying to take intellectual property. Second, when you do business in China and you are a U.S. company, you must sign an agreement where you transfer all of your intellectual property to a Chinese counterpart.
Corker said he expected no movement on an immigration law this year and called the recent Omnibus bill, which he did not vote for, as “grotesque.”
Corker said the Trump administration is following through on some severe sanctions on Russia.
He also said that foreign policy is best not done by tweet.

Paul Davis and Harvey Tillery will be among the 10 individuals to be inducted into the 42nd annual Cleveland Parks and Recreation Department’s Old Timers Hall of Fame.
The inductees are recognized at a banquet, which will be held May 4, at the Museum Center at Five Points.
The banquet will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets, which are $25 each, must be purchased by May 1 and can be picked up at the city Parks and Rec office at 160 2nd St. NE.
Paul Eric Davis, a native of Cleveland, graduated from Cleveland High School and attended the University of Tennessee on a track scholarship. While at UT, he was a member of the 1978 SEC Team championship. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army for four years, where he was honorably discharged.
Harvey Tillery is a 1960 graduate of College Hill High School. He played football and basketball, but was particularly noted for his achievements in basketball. Tillery was a member of the hoops team for four years — two as a trainer and two in uniform. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving three years and earning the rank of sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1966. He served 17 months in Germany.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office continues its security and safety training sessions today, with a review of its last three events. This free session is offered from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church, located at 4001 Georgetown Road N.W. in Cleveland.
The session is part of ongoing security and safety training to ensure worship services and public meetings remain safe. It will also offer a forum for attendees to discuss any safety issues recognized at their facility. Pre-registration is not required, and registration will be at the door.
The training is free and open to all organizations in the city and county, but officials are asking for small groups of decision makers from each organization since space is limited.
