The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released a statement asking the public to stay at home if at all possible. While many of the main roadways have been treated, any moisture left from yesterday’s snowfall and wintry mix is now frozen as temperatures are well below freezing. Many secondary roads are also icy in the area.
The THP also wants to remind you that if you do need to travel, to call 511. You can get road updates from across the state.
All area school systems are closed today. Those include Bradley County, Cleveland City, Hamilton County, McMinn County, Athens City, Meigs County, Polk County, Rhea County, and Dayton City.
Bradley, McMinn, Polk, and Rhea County have already announced they are closed tomorrow.
All locations of Cleveland State Community College, Lee University, and UTC are closed.
Many area doctors’ offices are also closed. You should call before heading out to any appointments.
The Bradley County SPCA is reminding people to bring in all pets. If that is not possible or if there are feral or stray cats around your home, they also have tips on building outdoor shelters for those animals on their Facebook page.
TVA announced yesterday that they have no plans to institute rolling blackouts. You can visit their website for more tips on cold-weather heating and energy management.
WCLE would like to remind you to check on the elderly and those living alone as temperatures will dip down close to zero tonight.

All local government offices and both Bradley County and Cleveland City Schools are closed today in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Cleveland Family YMCA’s day camp for kids is also canceled for today.
Lee University is also closed and the planned MLK events have been postponed due to weather.
UTC is closed today and Tuesday.
