From WATE in Knoxville: Tennessee Lt. Governor and Speaker of the Senate Randy McNally was taken to the hospital Friday after he says he experienced symptoms of an irregular heartbeat.

 

McNally, 79, posted on social media overnight Friday stating he had checked into Vanderbilt Medical Center Thursday.

 

Friday afternoon, it was posted on his social media pages: “Happy to report my pacemaker surgery went smoothly. Currently in recovery and resting comfortably. Thank you to friends, family, colleagues and citizens across the state for your messages, prayers and support. Looking forward to getting back to work!”

 

McNally serves as the 50th lieutenant governor of Tennessee and has served as a state senator of the 5th district (Anderson, Loudon, and Knox counties) since 1987. He first ran for state house in 1978.
