On August 17th, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a deputy with the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office was on patrol on Spring Place Road and observed a subject running across the road toward Broomfield Road.

The deputy was able to make contact with the subject, later identified as Christopher Baxter. Baxter was arrested for an active local warrant for failure to appear in court. Upon his arrest, deputies discovered that he was in possession of a reciprocating saw, a backpack, numerous new and used saw blades, and various tools.

Also on August 17th, at approximately 8:00 a.m., patrol deputies and investigators responded to a business on Spring Place Road. Once on scene, the owner reported that between midnight and 3:00 a.m. two subjects were caught on camera, inside the fence of his business, and carrying reciprocating saws.

Christopher Baxter was one of the suspects on the property carrying a saw. The victim also reported that two catalytic converters had been cut from vehicles during the same time frame that Baxter was on the property.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the lights from the deputy’s patrol vehicle, who was participating in routine area checks, interrupted the criminal activity of two suspects near the business.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency has given its final approval to end emissions testing in Hamilton County.

TN Sen. Watson and the late Rep. Mike Carter originally passed legislation in 2018 to end the state program requiring annual emissions testing for cars and trucks, citing the financial strain on the state’s most vulnerable residents, but have had to wait for the federal government to repeal the federal portion of the law.

According to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, the approval becomes effective on Sept. 16, 2021, 30 days after publication in the Federal Register.

Tennessee law states the elimination of vehicle emissions testing is effective 120 days following EPA’s approval.

For that reason, the effective end date of the program is Jan. 14, 2022. In counties where vehicle emissions testing is ending, persons registering their vehicles on or before Jan. 13, 2022 will still be required to get the vehicle emissions test.

Residents in those counties who register after Jan. 13, 2022 will not have to undergo vehicle emissions testing.

A woman injured during a shooting at Hamilton Place Mall spoke out for the first time since the incident on Monday.

While limping on a walker and unable to apply pressure on her left nor right leg, Sasha Holmes told Channel 3 she was shopping for school with her three-year-old when shots broke out last Thursday.

On the day of the incident, the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) initially reported a woman had possibly been grazed by a bullet, but later said she was only injured from falling on an escalator trying to escape the area the incident occurred.

Holmes provided a medical diagnosis from her doctor at Erlanger which indicated a right injury from the escalator fall and a gunshot wound to the left leg.

The spokesperson for CBL Properties who owns the mall said they plan to continue the increased presence of security which they had the weekend following the incident.

No suspects have been identified or arrested.
